PURPOSE: To shorten annealing time and to restrain oxidation in a furnace by removing formed burnt surface film, after applying an antioxidant composed of colloidal inorganic material, silica material having the specific m.p. and organic polymeric dispersant on surface of a stainless steel strip and successively annealing.
CONSTITUTION: On the surface of stainless steel strip, the antioxidant composed of the colloidal inorganic material, the compound selected from the silica material, borite material and phosphate material having m.p. of ≤1300°C and the organic polymeric dispersant, is applied and successively, annealed in the prescribed heat treatment condition in combustion gas atmosphere and after that, the burnt film of antioxidant formed on the surface of stainless steel strip is removed. Further, a coating device 21 for antioxidant sets spray nozzles 23, 24 in a hood 22 in a state of holding front and back surfaces of the stainless steel strip S between and automatically applies the antioxidant 25, and a removal device 31 for antioxidant film sets two pairs of upper and lower nyron brush rolls 33 in inner part of a hood 32 in a state of coming into contact with the front and back surfaces of stainless steel strip S to detach the burnt film from the surface of stainless steel strip S.
