Abstract:

PURPOSE: To control a fume hood accurately by employing flow coefficient in order to compensate for resistance to air flow through a grill means overlying a bypass opening.
CONSTITUTION: A fume hood face velocity controller 20 using variable bypass resistance comprises means for detecting the position of a movable sash door 76 and generating a position signal, a first size determining means for determining the size at the uncoated part of a front opening depending on the position signal from the position detecting means, and a second size determining means for determining the size at the unclosed part of a bypass opening 75 depending on the position signal from the position detecting means. The determined size is adjusted by a flow coefficient and the resistance to air flow due to a grill means is compensated thus determining the effective size at the unclosed part of the bypass opening 75.
