To reduce the capital invested to an apparatus by combining a caustic-prewashing section, an extractor, a sedimentation separation tank and a sand filter constituting the apparatus, in the apparatus and a method for extracting sulfur compounds from a hydrocarbon stream.
The prewashing section 30 to convert hydrogen sulfide to a sulfide salt by a reaction using an alkali such as a caustic is communicated with an extraction section 32 located right above the prewashing section 30 and to convert mercaptan to mercaptide by a reaction using an alkali. A hydrocarbon product goes out the extraction section 32 through a coalescer 58 to prevent the alkali from flowing out along with the hydrocarbon product stream. The prewashing section 30 to convert hydrogen sulfide to sodium sulfide by the reaction using an alkali such as a caustic prepares the hydrocarbon stream for extraction. The used alkali is continuously recovered, and the reproduced alkali is continuously added to the prewashing section 30.
