Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system that can provide focused non-progressive cooling to concentrated areas of the process, in particular at the lower temperature end of the process.SOLUTION: A cryogenic liquefaction device comprises: a heat exchanger 100; a phase separator 2; an expansion device 1; first 5 and second 6 expansion turbines; a cold recovery circuit for circulating a heat transfer fluid between a thermal energy storage device and the heat exchanger; and a compressor 400 for compressing a supply stream 401. The operating inlet pressures of the first and second expansion turbines are different from each other, a first portion of a pressurized gas stream is directed through the heat exchanger, the expansion device and the phase separator, a second portion of the pressurized gas stream is directed through the first expansion turbine, then through the heat exchanger in a counter-flow direction to the first portion. The second portion of the pressurized gas stream is supplied locally to the inlet of the cold recovery stream as a pressurized non-progressive cooling stream to move the cold thermal energy to the first portion, and then directed through the second expansion turbine. The phase separator output gas stream is merged with the supply stream after being passed through the heat exchanger.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 17
