In the magnetic position detecting method for determining the position of the reception coil, by generating AC magnetic fields with mutually different frequencies from a plurality of transmission coils, and further using a reception signal that is induced in the reception coil, a piecewise polynomial function for setting coordinates positions in a measurement region as explanatory variables is used to express the strength of a reception signal, that is induced in the reception coil to the relative position relation between the transmission and reception coils; further the position of the reception coil is calculated to minimize the error between signal strength that is predicted from the magnetic field function and the actually observed signal strength; and the position of the reception coil is determined by the position calculation.
