To provide a tool life detecting method and tool life detecting apparatus which can accurately detect a tool running out of life.
The tool life detecting method includes the steps of using numerical information related to a specific cutting resistance premeasured as to a machining object to be machined this time and numerical information related to a machining load value already measured as to a previously machined machining object and the specific cutting resistance corresponding to this to compute as an expected load value the machining load value expected to be generated when machining the machining object to be machined this time, comparing this expected load value with a reference load value serving as a criterion for determining a tool life, and detecting that the tool has run out of life when the expected load value exceeds the reference load value.
