To provide a method of drilling holes in compost to sufficiently supply air required for the fermentation of compost to the compost and an apparatus for drilling the holes in compost.
In the method of making many holes in the compost, a vertical hole opened on the upper surface of the compost is made by putting a drilling machine into the compost from the upper surface of the compost in a composting chamber by power. The drilling machine is withdrawn from the vertical hole, moves in the composting chamber, is stopped at a prescribed position, is put into the compost from the upper surface of the compost to drill the vertical hole. A series of the processes that the drilling machine is withdrawn form the vertical hole, moved and put into the compost is repeated to drill many vertical holes in the compost. An extended space part having a diameter larger than that of the upper part of the vertical hole is formed on the lower part of the vertical hole and many vertical holes each having the extended space part are made in the compost. Two or more drilling machines are used to drill the holes at the same time or with a time interval. The vertical hole is drilled by putting the drilling machine into the compost stirred by a stirrer.
