PURPOSE: To enable a high-quality coating to be formed by obtaining a device which is capable of maintaining the relative ratio of a liquid coating material composition constituting a liquid coating material compound and a supercritical fluid as a diluent at high accuracy and capable of maintaining the formulation substantially at a single phase or desired multiple phases.
CONSTITUTION: This apparatus has a liquid coating material composition supply source 14 and a liquid diluent supply source 41, forms the coating material formulation by mixing two components supplied from respective supply sources 14 and 41 with a mixer 38, sends the formulation to a coating material discharging device 12 and applies the material to the base material. At this time, one parameter of the formulation associated with the content of the fluid diluent in the formulation and/or the content of the liquid coating material composition and the pressure of the formulation are monitored by a computer 26 in a controlling system 109 and the supply of the fluid diluent and/or the supply of the liquid coating material composition is subjected to opening/closing control by a control valve 46, etc., according to the monitor results thereof. The change in the parameter of the liquid coating material composition is obtd. and the desired ratio of the fluid diluent to the liquid coating material composition in the formulation is maintained.
