To provide an image forming apparatus by which the deterioration of an image due to transfer scattering and the various kinds of defects due to the heating of a multicolor image carrier such as an intermediate transfer body are suppressed and also the defective transfer of a multicolor toner image due to insufficient heating is suppressed even in the case of adopting a one-path system.
A toner quantity in each monochromatic toner image is adjusted so as to set a toner sticking quantity per the unit-area of the surface of a first intermediate transfer belt 8 carrying the multicolor toner image at a secondary transfer nip (the abutting part of the first intermediate transfer belt 8 and a second intermediate transfer belt 16) where the multicolor toner image is heated and transferred from the first intermediate transfer belt 8 to transfer paper P as ≤2.0(mg/cm2).
