Abstract:

To provide a method and apparatus for increasing receiver immunity to interference.

The power level of a received signal is detected. If the power level meets or exceeds a predetermined power threshold, a low noise amplifier 703 is provided with a bypass route 730, thus increasing an intercept point of the receiver components. By using an RF power detector, the front-end gain as a function of jammer power is controlled. The sensitivity of the receiver is adjusted at a lower signal level than a switchable gain block by a predetermined amount. The receiver processing section measures the gain change in the IF signal power. If the change is less than the predetermined amount, the CDMA signal and jammer power are below the minimum noise and, therefore, the gain is increased. If the IF signal power change is greater than the predetermined amount, the interference is evident and the gain is reduced to reduce the intermodulation products. This process is used until the receiver operates at the best compromise between interference and noise figure.
