Abstract:

To provide a new method and apparatus for inspecting an optical fiber sensor which can inspect an FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) sensor, abnormalities of an optical source for optical fibers and a fault.

Entrance of light is carried out for an optical fiber having a plurality of Bragg grid sensors by which Bragg lattice spacings differ. An optical receiving section receives a reflected light reflected from each Bragg grid sensor. Noise level is detected from the spectrum of a returning light which received. The optical receiving section sets noise level of normal case as a reference noise level beforehand, when the reference noise level is compared with the noise level received by the optical receiving section and an absolute value of the difference exceeds a predetermined range, it determines that the optical receiving section is faulted.
