PURPOSE: To provide a method and an apparatus for inspecting the surface of a product obtained by press working which can effectively apply a gloss liquid to improve the glossiness of the to-be-inspected surface.
CONSTITUTION: In order to obtain the glossiness of the surface of a pressed product 25 necessary for the surface inspection by an optical surface inspection device 21, a lubricant B of the same quality as a rust preventive oil A which is applied to a processing material 24 before the product 25 is subjected to the press working is used as a glass liquid to apply the glass to the to-be- inspected surface of the product 25. Since the gloss liquid is of the same quality as the rust preventive oil A applied earlier, no chemical reaction or counteraction is generated and accordingly a uniform film surface of the gloss liquid is obtained. Even when the rust preventive oil or gloss liquid is to be removed, one degreasing process is enough to the lubricant of the same quality. Therefore, the removal is carried out in a simpler manner. The gloss liquid is applied by a static spray device 22 before the press product 25 is sent to the inspection device 21.
