Abstract:
The diameter is determined of a yarn (F) which, owing to the formation of a yarn balloon, moves transversely to its longitudinal direction and which in the course of its transverse movement passes through a beam of light (S) passing between a light source (5) and a light detector (6). In the course of this passage through the light beam, the light detector (6) is shadowed to a degree which corresponds to the particular yarn thickness. The magnitude and/or duration of this shadowing is evaluated as a signal which measures the yarn diameter and is judged according to known criteria in respect of yarn fineness, yarn uniformity and other criteria derived therefrom.
