To provide a method and apparatus for magnetizing a tone wheel that causes no decrease in magnetization quality even with a jaw type chuck as a fixture by making the most of advantages of a rotary system.
An annular body 4 to be magnetized is stuck on one part of a ring reinforcement 3, made of magnetic material, which includes a tubular part 3a and an other part 3b orthogonal thereto, and the ring reinforcement 3 is attached to the fixture 2 comprising a jaw type chuck means made of nonmagnetic material through the tubular part 3a. In a state where a magnetizing yoke 5 has one end 51 close to a surface of the annular body 4 to be magnetized and the other end 52 positioned outside an outer peripheral edge of the annular body to be magnetized, the fixture 2 is axially rotated closely to the other part of the ring reinforcement 3 and simultaneously, an alternating closed circuit of magnetic flux (a) is formed among the one end 51 of the magnetizing yoke 5, the annular body 4 to be magnetized, the ring reinforcement 3 made of magnetic material, and the other end 52 of the magnetizing yoke 5 to magnetize the annular body 4 to be magnetized in a manner that S poles and N poles are alternately formed along its periphery.
