To provide a method and an apparatus by which a structure and a motion can be made simple, compact and speedy, a knot with a good appearance is automatically made on various kinds of string-like bodies, and which is utilized in a food processing field wherein string-like bodies for dried gourd or the like are tied.

The method for making knots on string-like bodies includes; a step wherein a first twisting arm 18 forms a first ring under a state wherein one end 13 of the string-like body 12 is held; a step wherein a second twisting arm 20 forms a second ring; a step wherein the front end 15 of a guiding rod 14 passes through the second ring and the first ring in order, and then, grips the one end 13 of the string-like body 12; a step wherein the one end 13 of the string-like body 12 is made to pass through the first ring and the second ring in order; a step wherein a first knot is formed by making the string-like body 12 crossed on the side surface of a tying core 24, and moving an auxiliary hook 23; and a step wherein a second knot is formed by moving the guiding rod 14.
