When molding a cylinder block 1, a communication hole 37b for communicating spaces 35 with each other is formed in a bulk part 37 for separating the spaces 35 on a crank case 5 side corresponding to adjacent cylinder bores 3. When forming the communication hole 37b, a through-hole 39a is formed into the communication hole 37b by insert-molding a ring 39. A ring supporting pin 29 for supporting the ring 39 is placed on a fixed die 7 in a die-opening state, and set on a die body. Thereafter, the die is closed and a molten metal is fed to a cavity to form a casting. After the forming, the ring supporting pin 29 is drawn out of the cylinder block 1 and the fixed die 7, and the die is opened.
