To provide a method and apparatus for uniformly and precisely fixing a sound absorbing material in a tire peripheral direction under high productivity in attaching the sound absorbing material to the inner peripheral surface of the tire's tread part, and to stably provide a sound absorbing material-containing tire of high quality by applying the sound absorbing material to the tire.
In attaching the strip of sound absorbing material at least to the inner peripheral surface of the tread part of the tire, as the sound absorbing material, one made stretchable at least in its longitudinal direction is used. This sound absorbing material is formed into such a size that its maximum diameter can pass through the rim hole of the tire to be inserted in the tire from the rim hole. Subsequently, the sound absorbing material is brought into contact with the inner peripheral surface of the tread part while stretched along the inner peripheral surface of the tread in the tire to be fixed to the inner peripheral surface of the tread through an adhesive.
