Abstract:

PURPOSE: To further improve the reliability of a method for measuring the hardness of a rod-shaped product in the tobacco processing industry.
CONSTITUTION: An optical measuring mechanism 57 is provided on this side of a pressure device 51 allowing measuring pressure to act on a large number of filter cigarettes 54 coming almost simultaneously on the upstream side in a cigarette feed direction. This measuring mechanism 57 detects the pressing depth of the filter cigarettes 54 pressed by the press lever 53 of the pressure device 51 each time on the basis of the acting direction of the press lever 53 and the value A obtained at this time is set to a zero point for the pressure device 51 each time in a form of a variable reference value.
