Abstract:

PURPOSE: To measure the velocity of unsteady fluid flow by determining the fluid velocity at a moment when the detected acceleration of fluid goes zero and integrating the difference between two static pressures numerically thereby measuring the variation of velocity between the moments of zero acceleration.
CONSTITUTION: An obstacle 10 is disposed in a flow extending in parallel with the direction of unsteady fluid flow having current velocity Vo (t). A tubular region 12 is provided in the obstacle 10 and static pressure taps 14, 16 are disposed at an interval of L so that the pressure difference between the taps will be equal to ρL (dVo/dt). ρ is the local density of the fluid. An input pressure tap 18 is provided at an inlet at the forward end of the obstacle 10 and coupled with a pressure gauge. A moment when the acceleration of fluid goes to zero is detected by detecting a moment when two static pressures P1, P2 measured at the taps 14, 16 are equal to each other. Subsequently, the fluid velocity at the moment of zero acceleration is calculated based on the input pressure at the tap 18 and the static pressures P1 at the taps 14. Furthermore, it is integrated digitally in order to measure the variation of velocity between the zero acceleration moments.
