PURPOSE: To suppress slag foaming and to assure a stable operation and high thermal efficiency by charging ground iron ore together with oxygen by a lance into a furnace, charging coal into the furnace from a furnace top part and subjecting the iron ore to melt reduction.
CONSTITUTION: The iron ore 4 ground to about ≤1mm is blown together with the oxygen 3 by the lance 2 into a converter 1 and is charged through slag 7 into a molten metal 6. The iron ore is reduced by the coal 5 charged into the furnace from the furnace top part. The gaseous CO formed by such reduction reaction is subjected to secondary combustion with the oxygen 3 blown out of the lance 2. The contact of the iron ore 4 with the slag layer 7 is thereby decreased and the generation of the slag foaming is suppressed, by which the operation is stabilized. The gas secondary combustion zone exists stably in the specified position as well, by which the perfect secondary combustion is executed and the high thermal efficiency is obtd.
