PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To observe all the surface of the inner wall of a coke oven chamber with a sufficient resolution to find damaged parts and know their positions while the inside of the chamber is in a red-hot state.
SOLUTION: This method for observing the inner wall of a coke oven chamber comprises: arranging a camera 1 giving off image pick-up signals and having a linear or slit-shaped visual field in such a manner as to enable the images of the inner wall to be picked up; moving the camera along the length direction of the coke oven while picking up image data at each short-distance movement; and successively tying the resultant image data correspondingly to the movement distances in the oven length direction to thereby form those images of the inner wall having a wide area into a sheet of image. A mirror unit 7, esp. one comprising a plurality of mirrors with different angles with the direction of the camera, is installed in front of the camera, and the images of the inner wall are picked up by using images obtd. by reflection by the mirror unit.
