Abstract:

To provide a method and an apparatus each of which can provide enhanced reaction rates for thermal chemical reactions.

A reactor for the catalytic conversion of at least one reactant in a thermal chemical reaction while decelerating the deep advance of an oxidation reaction comprises: at least one reaction chamber containing a catalyst; and at least one heat exchanger thermally-contacted with the reaction chamber. The heat exchanger has the minimum size of 100 μm to 10 mm and the reaction chamber has the height equal to or less than 5 cm (2 inches). The heat of at least 0.6 W per the total reactor volume (cc) can be transferred between the heat exchanger and the reaction chamber during the steady-state operation at a heat transfer step.
