To provide a method and apparatus for operating a fluidized bed incinerator capable of a stable operation at a high efficiency by recovering fly ash together with a fluidized medium by a solid-gas separator to prevent generation of clinker.
In a fluidized bed incinerator 1 a fluidized medium is recovered by separation from waste gas by a solid-gas separator 5, and the medium which has passed a downcomer 6 connected to the lower part of the separator is temporarily stored in a seal pot 7, and the medium is returned from the pot 7 through a fluidized medium return path 13 into the furnace. A fly-ash separation means is provided for separating the fluidized medium from the fly ash in the downcomer 6, fly ash separated in the downcomer 6 by the separation means is returned to the soil-gas separator 5. In the fly-ash separation means, a downcomer superficial velocity U0 is set to be an intermediate velocity of terminal velocity U1, and U2 respectively of the fluidized medium and fly ash.
