PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of cracks at the time of pressing, by compressing a crescently cut bamboo in the direction wherein the widths of both sides of the bamboo are reduced and pressing it under heating condition.

CONSTITUTION: A bamboo 1 wherein oil diffused on the surface by immersing it in a caustic soda aq. soln. or heating directly is wiped off is crescently cut after bamboo joints are removed. The cut bamboo 1 is immersed in water to adjust the water content and heated uniformly by irradiating with microwave etc. to soften. An apparatus for preparing a bamboo plate consists of pinching plates 5 and 6 pressing the bamboo from the both sides to make it in a flat face, a cylinder 7 which is a pressing member pressing this pinching plates 5 and 6 and partitions 8 positioned on both sides of the bamboo pressed by means of pinching plates 5 and 6 and pressing the both sides of the bamboo 1 under pressing condition. Therefore, as the crescent bamboo 1 is press-molded while the both sides are pressed by means of partitions 8, occurrence of cracks can be prevented.
