To provide a method and apparatus for processing embroidery data capable of preparing satisfactory embroidery stitch data corresponding to connecting regions irrespective of the shape of the connecting region.

Picture image data representing embroidery data are inputted (S10) and then inputted in a border line (S12) to take out a connecting region in a detail obtained by dividing the picture image data along the border line (S17) and set the sewing method to the connecting region (S18). A contour line of the connecting region is extracted according to the sewing method to prepare sewing data so that inside of the contour is filled with sewing stitches by a contour line inside embroidery data-preparing process (S20). The center line of the connecting region is extracted and the embroidery data are prepared to sew the embroidery stitches left and right with reference to the center line or on the center line in a center line reference embroidery data preparing process (S21). Either of these processes are applied to prepare the embroidery data.
