Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for the mechanical processing of cellulose-containing material in a refining zone between refining members 4, 5 rotating relative to each other, in a disc mill or conical refiner. According to the invention, energy consumption can be reduced substantially by supplying an inert gas, such as air, to the refining zone 10, by, e.g. a conduit 12. Processing also can be carried out at a high circumferential speed e.g. above 30 m/s.
