To provide a method for producing a fuel which is mainly composed of a fatty acid ester and is alternative to a fossil fuel, using raw materials of a material oil mainly composed of a used edible oil or a vegetable oil, and an alcohol through transesterification using an alkaline catalyst, is easy in processing and in operation, discharges no waste water and efficiently produces a high quality fuel alternative to the fossil fuel without leaving impurities, water and glycerol therein.
This method for producing the fuel alternative to the fossil fuel comprises the following processes: a process to remove water contained in the material oil by passing the oil through a water removal filter having water absorptivity before the transesterification and a process to remove glycerol remaining in the fatty acid ester by passing the fatty acid ester through a glycerol separation filter having a property to separate or to absorb glycerol after the process of separation of glycerol contained in the produced fatty acid ester by still-standing separation.
