To provide a method and an apparatus for producing a micro crystalline ingot by which an alloy having high melting point can be melted by greatly reducing the ingress of impurities, and segregation and coarsening of grains when the molten metal is solidified, can effectively be restrained and as a result. A homogeneous and high strength large ingot can stably be produced in the whole body.
The apparatus is provided with a high frequency induction electric furnace 12 having a hollow crucible 12a opened at the lower part, an ingot case 14 positioned below the electric furnace and opened at the upper part and a throat 16 air-tightly connecting the lower opening part of the crucible with the upper opening part of the ingot case. Further, a crude material 10 whose components are adjusted and refined through a throat closing step S1, a crude material sealing-up step S2, an evacuating step S3, a crude material melting step S4, a plug melting step S5 and a rapidly solidifying step S6, is levitation-melted with the high frequency induction heating. Then, the plug in the throat is melted with the high frequency induction heating, and the molten metal is dripped into the ingot case through the throat and rapidly solidified and finely crystallized.
