PURPOSE: To form a coating having a uniform thickness on a metal strip by treating the surface of the strip continuously moving, coating the both sides of the strip with a charged powder sprayed from electrostatic spray guns, inductively heating the resultant strip to a temp. above the melting point of the powder and further heating the strip using a heater for sufficient time.
CONSTITUTION: A metal strip 12 is surface treated and then introduced into a coating chamber 20. The both sides of the strip are coated with a charged powder in the coating chamber 20, which charged powder is transported by gas and sprayed from electrostatic spray guns 58, 60, 62, 64, 66. Then, the coated strip is inductively heated to a temp. above the melting point of the powder and maintained at a temp. higher than the melting point of the powder for the time sufficient to make the fused powder an adhesive coating having a smooth surface and a uniform thickness. By this process, it is possible to form the coating having an uniform thickness on the both side of the metal strip using the electrostatically charged powder.
