PURPOSE: To provide a process for producing a shaped nonwoven fabric capable of obtaining the nonwoven fabric having a cross section which is not rectangular and an apparatus therefor as well as this nonwoven fabric and a method for using the same.

CONSTITUTION: This process consists in feeding fibers 1 to a carding machine 3 on its finite width, overlapping at least ten layers of worsted webs and sewing the overlapped layers. The overlapping is preferably executed by winding the webs on a cylindrical drum. The shaped nonwoven fabric has a thickness decreasing gradually toward its edges. The resultant strip (elongated piece) has asymmetrical shape in the cross section by the cutting in a longitudinal direction. For example, the shaped nonwoven fabric has the cut parts in the longitudinal direction on the edge sides selectively along the central axis.
