Abstract:

PURPOSE: To efficiently and inexpensively form even the composite material having relatively intricate shapes without using a binder.

CONSTITUTION: Short fibers 44 are fed together with a carrier gas 46 into a mold cavity 24 of a casting mold 10 and only the carrier gas is allowed to flow to the outside of the casting mold, by which the short fibers are packed into the cavity; thereafter, a molten metal 50 of a matrix metal is poured into the cavity and is solidified while the molten metal is pressurized. The subject producing apparatus consists of a stationary mold 14 and moveable molds 16, 18 and has a filter 26 which is disposed into the mold cavity delineated by these molds to permit the passage of the carrier gas and to inhibit the passage of the short fibers.
