Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reliably start an internal combustion engine even when a fuel not corresponding to the characteristics of the fuel with fuel setting value set upon starting is used.
CONSTITUTION: As long as a test-end condition has not been satisfied, the engine's speed of rotation is checked to determine whether an increase in speed of rotation is present within a predetermined range (S3.4, S3.6). If not, a correction value for correcting a fuel quantity determined according to the engine drive state is changed so as to yield an air-fuel mixture leading to an increase in the speed of rotation within the predetermined range upon combustion (S3.5, S3.7). An internal combustion engine can be reliably started by this method even when a poor fuel is used while the correction value is set for a good fuel.
