Abstract:

PURPOSE: To recycle aq. fluid absorbent fine particles occurring in producing an absorbent polymer for hygienic products, etc., to the main product stream by spraying water to dried fine particles to knead under a high shearing force without causing flocculation and them mixing with a viscous material under a medium-strength shearing force.

CONSTITUTION: Dried fine particles are supplied by a twin-screw extruder 24 of a supply apparatus 21 to a high-speed mixer 20, i.e., the first mixing zone; water is sprayed through a spray nozzle 30 of a water feed port 29 into the mixing zone to bring the particles into contact with water to partially hydrate the particles; and the particles and water are mixed with an impeller 26 equipped with a mixing paddle 27 and installed in the mixer 20 under such a high shearing force that the particles are completely hydrated without flocculating and carried out of the first mixing zone. Then, the hydrated particles are mixed with a viscous material in the second mixing zone under a medium- strength shearing force so that a homogeneous mixture is obtd. Thus, dry hardly hydrable fine polymer particles are mixed again into a water-swellable viscous polymer material.
