Abstract:

To provide a method and an apparatus which are capable of energy-saving separation, removal and recovery, that is, separating and recovering products in the synthetic industry, and removing environmental contaminants, and the like, by a simple principle and apparatus.

A compound containing a proton dissociation group is protonated in the condition of pH<pKa (dissociation constant) and exhibits high hydrophilic properties, and is deprotonated to provide an essential hydrophobic properties at pH>pKa. Therefore, two kinds of water phases having different pH's are separated with a porous hydrophobic film using hydrophilic-and-hydrophobic-property change depending on pH.
