PURPOSE: To improve the mechanical characteristic of a supercooled-solidified material using large supercooling by pouring small drips of molten metal into a mold charged with molten glass capable of removing foreign matter in the molten metal, obtaining a greatly supercooled molten metal in a short time and solidifying it after storing the supercooled molten metal at the lower part of the mold.
CONSTITUTION: By using heaters 3, 5 13 divided into several steps from a nozzle 2 at the upper part to the mold 11 at the lower part, the temp. distribution is controlled. On the lower surface of the nozzle 2, plural holes having the diameter fit to the size of the small drip are bored and the molten metal 4 is poured into the mold 11 at the lower part in small drips 6. Further, the small drips 6 of molten metal is cooled down to sufficient low temp. during settling in the mold 11. The supercooled small drips are integrally stored at the lower part of the mold. When the stored supercooled molten metal 12 reaches a prescribed quantity, solidification nuclei are formed in the molten metal with a solidification inducing device 14. At the time of once generating the solidification nuclei, as latent heat of solidification in the supercooled molten metal is forcedly removed by cooling, the solidification is instantaneously spread over the whole body using the nuclei as cores.
