PURPOSE: To provide a method for thermally treating a material containing vaporizable substances, especially refuse.
CONSTITUTION: In order to select ore and/or treating refuse under negative pressure while reducing pressure and increasing temperature without supplying any oxygen, materials containing vaporizable substances are treated thermally while forming gas, vapor, condensates and solids. The materials are exposed sequentially to pressure reducing stepwise and temperature increasing stepwise in at least two treatment chambers 10, 13, 14 closed off each other. The vaporizable substances are exhausted separately from each treatment chamber and at least partially condensed and collected. The solid materials are discharged from the last treatment chamber 14. The treatment chambers can be closed off against each other, against the atmosphere, and against any other unit which may be connected to them downline by vacuum valves 11, 12, 15, 16 and are connected to vacuum lines 10a, 13a, 14a in which condensers 10b, 13b, 14b and vacuum pumps 10c, 13c, 14c are installed.
