To provide a method for tilt casting, which method hardly leaves solidified films at a pouring basin after finishing the pouring of molten metal into a cavity, and further to provide a tilt casting apparatus suitable for performing the method for the tilt casting.
The tilt casting apparatus has a casting mold 3 and the pouring basin 6. The pouring basin 6 is provided with a molten metal receiving surface 7 which is located in front of a gate 5 and is concavely curved. In the neighborhood of the open end 5a of the gate, the inside wall surface 5b of the gate and the edge portion of the receiving surface 7 connected to the inside wall surface of the gate are almost linearly continued to each other. In the tilt casting operation, the pouring basin 6 is filled with molten metal in the state that the casting mold 3 and the pouring basin 6 are arranged in the initial attitude that the gate 5 is oriented in the diagonally downward direction or horizontal direction. Then, the molten metal is introduced into the cavity 4 by tilting the casting mold 3 and the pouring basin 6. When the continued portion of the inside wall surface 5b of the gate in the neighborhood of the open end of the gate with the edge portion of the receiving surface 7 has arrived at an almost upright position along a vertical line, the tilting motion of the casting mold 3 and the pouring basin 6 is stopped.
