Abstract:
To remove vanadium from heavy oil by a method for treating heavy oil with supercritical water or subcritical water.
In the method for treating and modifying heavy oil with supercritical water or subcritical water, supercritical water is mixed with heavy oil and an oxidant to oxidize vanadium with the oxidant during the treatment with supercritical water, thus liberating vanadium oxide from heavy oil. The liberated vanadium oxide is removed with a scavenger after the completion of the treatment with supercritical water. Thus, the problem with the corrosion of turbine blades due to vanadium, apprehended in using heavy oil as a gas turbine fuel, can be avoided.
