To provide a series of muddy soil treating methods for recovering sand and gravel from muddy soil, supplying muddy water to a thickener and recovering slurry and an apparatus for treating muddy soil.
This apparatus for treating muddy soil is provided with: a horizontal vessel 2 which is arranged on a machine frame 1 and has a semicircular arc bottom surface 2'; a trommel 3 which is supported pivotally in the horizontal vessel 2 and has the same center line (a) as the semicircular arc bottom surface 2'; a spiral plate 4 arranged on the inner peripheral surface of the trommel 3 for conveying an oversize material from an opening 3' at one end of the trommel to another opening 3'' at the other end of the trommel; a plurality of scrapers 5 connected to the outer peripheral surface in the center of the trommel 3; and another spiral plate 6 arranged for conveying an undersize material from both ends of the outer peripheral surface of the trommel 3 to the outer peripheral surface in the center of the trommel. The undersize material is discharged to the outside of the horizontal vessel 2 by the plurality of scrapers 5, the oversize material is discharged from the opening 3'' at the other end of the trommel and simultaneously muddy water is made to overflow the horizontal vessel 2 to a receiver 7. The overflowed muddy water is supplied to the thickener 8.
