To provide a method of aqueous polymerization for preparing an aqueous polymer dispersion.
The method for preparing the aqueous polymer dispersion containing polymer particles dispersed in an aqueous medium includes a process for preparing first polymer particles, a process for adding a hydrophobic polymerization blocker or a styrene monomer polymerization blocker to the aqueous medium containing the first polymer particles, and a process for preparing second polymer particles in the presence of the first polymer particles. The aqueous polymer dispersion contains the first polymer particles and the second polymer particles which are mutually different in relation to at least one property such as particle diameter, molecular weight, composition, glass transition temperature or morphology, or contains the polymer particles having a wide variety of polydispersibility. The aqueous polymer dispersion prepared by the method of the invention is useful in a wide range of applications including coatings, adhesives, binders for nonwoven fabrics and binders for coating paper.
