Abstract:

To protect internal combustion engines against fuel enrichment by stopping fuel supply to at least discrete cylinders and limiting the fuel cutoff time or frequency in a maximum permissible speed range or fully-loaded range.

On receiving input signals about wheel rotating speed from measuring devices 40 and 42, a control unit 34 diagnoses the slip trend of at least one driving wheel. When the wheel rotating speed exceeds a predetermined reference value, the control unit 34 outputs to another control unit 10 a signal urging it to reduce the torque of an internal combustion engine, and regulates the slippage that is based on the wheel rotating speed to a predetermined target value. The control unit 10 then controls the fuel quantity via an output line 12 and the ignition timing via another output line 16 and further limits or prohibits individual injection stops to protect the internal combustion engine in a maximum permissible speed range or fully-loaded range.
