Abstract:
To provide a method and apparatus for attaching a rail system that conforms to surfaces with comparatively large contour in the longitudinal direction of traversal.
A step of removably attaching a tool-carrying rail includes steps of: sealing a perimeter of the vacuum cup 10 to the rail-side surface of an aircraft against vacuum loss; attaching the rail to standoff pins of the vacuum cup 10; coupling a vacuum source to all of a space between the vacuum cup 10 and the rail-side surface of the aircraft; and slidably positioning the tool along the longitudinal axis of the tool-carrying rail.
