PURPOSE: To automatize the bending of a closure tab projecting at a flange of a vessel proper by a method wherein, after hermetically sealing the vessel by attaching to its flange a lid having a closure tab, a spongy elastic body having force of restitution is pressed down upon the lid from above.
CONSTITUTION: After a paper cup 7 made of paper and aluminum has been filled with wine or food, the paper cup is hermetically sealed with a sunken lid 6 with an aluminum-based tab and then mounted on a stand 5 (for the cup). By extending a cylinder 3 provided above a frame 4 holding the stand 5 a spongy elastic body 1 attached to the lowest end of a cylinder rod 3' with a holder 2 therebetween is pressed down upon the sunken lid 6 so that the elasticity of the spongy body is used to bend down the (closure) tab 8 to a bent form 8'. This method makes it easy to bend the tab 8 and at a lower cost and lends itself to rationalization of the process which has hitherto been dependent upon manual work.
