Abstract:
PURPOSE: To form a metallic workpiece by bending without employing external force by heating a material along a bending line with a concentrated stream SE of energy, partially plasticizing, melting and swelling and cooling this part. CONSTITUTION: The heat treatment of the material of the workpiece to be bent is executed with the concentrated stream SE of energy such as laser radiation. In the 1st zone S1 of a region to be heated, the material is melted and, in the 2nd zone S2, it is plasticized. Next, the material is cooled at a room temp. or in the stream of blown air. The 1st zone S1 and 2nd zone S2 are shrinked by cooling. The heating can also be executed with an electron beam and may be executed by coating the surface of the material with a substance for increasing the absorption coefficient of energy beam under an protective atmosphere. In this way, the metallic workpiece is bent without employing the external force.
