Title:
METHOD FOR BENDING AND TEMPERING GLASS SHEET AND APPARATUS THEREFOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3801665
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a method for producing bent and tempered thin glass sheets having optically high quality and an apparatus therefor.
CONSTITUTION: The portion to be strongly bent of the glass sheet 11 is heated in a furnace 12 to a temp. higher than in the other portions and the glass sheet is carried to a press bending station 13 outside furnace by rollers or the like where the glass sheet is pressed between upper and lower molds 61 and 62 respectively having the shape forming surfaces making up each other. The at least one mold is provided with a heating device for heating the interior and the shape forming surfaces of the molds are initially heated to prevent the distortion generated in the glass. The glass sheet is then installed on carrier ring of a shutter device 160 meeting the peripheral edge of the bent glass sheet and is carried into a quenching station 14 where cooling fluid, such as air, is directed by opposite blast heads 151, 152 to both surfaces of the glass sheet to rapidly cool and temper the surfaces of the glass sheet. The glass sheet is then removed from the carrier ring.
