Title:
METHOD FOR BRAZING CERAMIC TO METAL, METHOD FOR FORMING ASSEMBLY FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE, AND METHOD FOR FORMING CERAMIC AND CAST IRON ELEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH01126278
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a ceramic contact surface element having excellent durability and wear resistance, by applying an alloy on a ceramic element of which surface in metallized, and imparting a metallic element thereon, then heating these elements.

CONSTITUTION: At least a part of the surface of the ceramic element 46 consisting of Si3N4 is metallized to form a metallized layer 50. This metallized layer 50 and the metallic element 22 consisting of cast iron are joined via the alloy 52 consisting of Ti, Cu or Ag to obtain a composite. This composite is then heated for about one hour at 871.1 to 954.4°C in a vacuum furnace, thereby, the brazing of the ceramics and the austenitization of the fine grain structure of the metal are simultaneously executed and thereafter, the assembly is rapidly cooled in a gaseous atmosphere having the gas selected from N2 and Ar and the heat transfer capacity similar to that of the N2 and Ar to make the fine grain structure of the metal be in an ordinary state.
