Abstract:
PURPOSE: To increase the brazing strength of diamond to a metal substrate by coating the surface of the diamond with a metal carbide or carbonitride by vapor phase synthesis in a specified temp. range and by brazing the diamond to the substrate with a brazing filler metal.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of diamond 5 is coated with a metal carbide or carbonitride 4 by vapor phase synthesis at 350W1000°C. The diamond 5 is then brazed to a holder 7 with a brazing filler metal 6. The bonding strength is increased and the effective volume of the diamond can be increased.
