Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carburizing and carbonitriding treating methods free from the need of a vacuum furnace provided with a seal structure of a high degree, capable of swiftly heating the object to be treated without the nonuniformity of temp. and furthermore capable of executing simultaneous treatment of carburizing and nitriding.
SOLUTION: A work is heated to a prescribed carburizing temp. in a nitrogen atmosphere, and, after that, as gas for carburizing, gaseous straight chain unsaturated hydrocarbon such as acetylene, ethylene is intermittently fed, by which carburizing is executed. Moreover, gaseous ammonia as a nitrogen source is intermittently fed together with the gaseous hydrocarbon, by which carbonitriding is executed.
