To provide a method and an apparatus for carrying a workpiece in a production line having a plurality of machine tools performing the same machining, in which, when a particular machine tool stops operation due to a malfunction or the like, while securing an operating rate of the production line by machining the workpiece with the other machine tool, the operating rate of the each machine tool can be normalized.
When the machine tool 1 and the workpiece W conform with each other (YES determination) in S9, the process proceeds to S10 and a waiting time is checked. In S11, the machine tool with the longest waiting time is regarded as an appointed tool. Thereafter, carrying work is performed to carry the workpiece W into the appointed tool in S12.
