PURPOSE: To provide a solid metallic lithium having no internal defect by arranging a through-hole to an inner shrinkage cavity developed in the metallic lithium solidified with the casting at the front step and filling up the inner sink cavity with the molten lithium through the through-hole.
CONSTITUTION: In inert gas atmosphere 12, the casting temp. is set to 190-250°C and the molten metallic lithium 18 is poured into a lithium reaction furnace 16 through a pouring tube 22 having 70-710mm2 cross sectional area and the casting quantity is made to be 80-95% of the prescribed quantity. The outlet 24 of the pouring tube 22 is made to position at the lower than the surface 28 of the molten metallic lithium 26. When the molten lithium 18 solidifies, the through-hole is bored to the inner sink cavity 32 developed in the inner part of the casting phase 29 at the front step and the remaining metallic lithium is cast by the same method as the casting process at the front step to fill up the metallic lithium into the inner sink cavity, and the metallic lithium phase 38 is formed by this casting at the rear step. By this method, the uniform phase solid lithium having in detect, such as the inner sink cavity 32, blow hole, pin holes, can be packed in the lithium reaction furnace 16.
